Structure
The AMCL is a limited liability company owned by its membership.
The AMCL membership must comprise a minimum of 80% General Practitioners. Each member has an equal shareholding and equal voting rights in the company.
Due to the nature of the AMCL being run by GPs for GPs, General Practitioners ultimately drive the organisation. The membership is divided geographically into local areas. In each of these areas a Local Board is elected to advance the development of the Co-operative at a local level.
From each local board a representative sits on the Local Boards Advisory Panel. This committee acts as a link between the local areas and the National board. The LBAP is the driving force behind the initiatives and membership activities.
The National Board of Directors is elected at the Annual General Meeting and develops business strategies for the advancement of the Co-operative. It oversees the implementation of the strategies by the management of the Co-operative.
In addition the Co-operative has an Education and Research Committee, which oversees, and implements programs and activities related to the ongoing education of the membership, including access to CPD points.
Committees and working parties are established as needed to support the National Board, LBAP and ERC.
Such topics covered include Information Technology, Ethics and Protocol, Recruitment and Health Care Services.
